Marian Wilson Kimber and Nathan Platte have both published articles in the most recent issues of Music & Politics. The journal is open access, so you can read and share their articles freely with others.

Dr. Wilson Kimber’s article, "'It's up to the women': Women's Peace Songs for Eleanor Roosevelt,"  features research on a collection of music sent by American citizens to First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, held at the FDR Presidential Library in Hyde Park, New York. It focuses on how Mrs. Roosevelt's peace activism influenced songs by women between the two World Wars.

Dr. Platte’s article, “Mixed Motives: Soviet Symphonies and Propagandistic Duplicity in The Iron Curtain (1948),” explores a Hollywood film that used excerpts from symphonies by Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Khachaturian, and Myaskovsky as the soundtrack for a story depicting Soviet espionage. Close listening reveals the anti-communist film's complicated indebtedness to pro-Soviet movies made by American studios during World War II.
